₹40 Cr Overbridge to Be Built on Rajkot AIIMS Road; Construction Starts in 3 Months

To ease daily traffic bottlenecks and improve access to Gujarat’s only AIIMS hospital, a ₹40 crore railway overbridge has been approved on the road leading to AIIMS Rajkot, near Parapipliya on Jamnagar Road. The project, sanctioned by the Rajkot District Roads and Buildings Department, aims to eliminate delays caused by the frequently closed Parapipliya railway crossing.

The overbridge will span 1000 meters in length and 17.17 meters in width and will be constructed using reinforced cement concrete (RCC). Construction will begin in October 2025, with a project deadline of March 2027. The tender has been awarded to Kalathiya Construction, selected from a pool of seven competing firms.

The railway crossing currently impacts over 5,000 daily commuters, including patients traveling to AIIMS, ambulances, and residents of nearby villages like Parapipliya, Anandpar, and Khandheri. Frequent train movement leads to long traffic halts, often affecting emergency response times.

With land acquisition and tender formalities already completed, the groundwork for the overbridge is ready to commence. Diversions will be arranged to minimize disruption during construction, and remaining road connectivity will be managed via existing routes such as the Morbi bypass.

This overbridge is expected to significantly improve patient access to AIIMS Rajkot, enhance emergency services, and strengthen transport infrastructure in the region. The initiative fulfills a long-standing demand of the local population and marks a major step forward in integrating healthcare access with reliable public infrastructure.
