7-km Tunnel Work Begins in Delhi

Delhi is witnessing a major transformation in its infrastructure landscape, with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) executing projects worth ₹35,000 crore across the city. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, after a recent meeting with Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, confirmed that several large-scale projects are currently underway to improve connectivity, reduce congestion, and strengthen the national capital’s road network.

One of the key highlights is the construction of a 7-kilometre underground tunnel between Shiv Murti and Nelson Mandela Road. This tunnel is expected to significantly decongest traffic in the busy Vasant Kunj and Mahipalpur areas, while offering seamless access to central and south Delhi. The project is currently in progress and forms a crucial part of Delhi’s long-term traffic management and urban planning strategy.

In addition to the tunnel, work is also ongoing on an elevated road corridor from INA to the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport. Once completed, this elevated route will provide faster and smoother travel to and from the airport, benefitting thousands of daily commuters.

Further reinforcing Delhi’s infrastructure, NHAI has approved Road Overbridge (RoB) and Road Underbridge (RuB) projects worth ₹150 crore. These developments aim to eliminate bottlenecks at railway crossings and improve overall vehicular movement in the capital.

The review meeting comes just days after the BJP government celebrated its 100 days in office in Delhi. With large-scale projects already underway and more on the anvil, the capital is poised for a substantial infrastructure overhaul.

Stay tuned for more updates as Delhi continues its journey toward becoming a more connected and commuter-friendly city.
