Ambedkar University set to shift from Kashmere Gate site

Jul 21, 2025

Ambedkar University set to shift from Kashmere Gate siteAmbedkar University Delhi (AUD) is set for a significant transformation as it prepares to relocate from its current heritage campus in Kashmere Gate. The move comes in response to infrastructural limitations and rising maintenance costs associated with the 400-year-old building complex that currently houses the university.

In a major infrastructure boost, two state-of-the-art campuses are under construction in Northwest Delhi — one in Dheerpur and the other in Rohini. The Dheerpur campus, spread over 4.95 acres, is being developed at a cost of Rs 1,199.02 crore, while the Rohini campus, spanning 20 acres, will come up at a cost of Rs 1,107.56 crore. Both projects received necessary statutory approvals in 2022 and construction is currently in progress.

Speaking on the development, AUD Vice-Chancellor Anu Singh Lather said, “The university building that we are functioning out of is a very old heritage building. We have maintained it well, but we will have to move out of here soon. It will take at least a couple of years for the construction of the new campuses to end and for us to relocate.”

Besides the Kashmere Gate site, AUD has also been operating a 6.5-acre campus in Karampura, on Shivaji Marg, since the academic year 2016–17. However, the relocation to Dheerpur and Rohini is seen as a step toward consolidating academic operations and enhancing infrastructure to support the growing needs of students and faculty.

The upcoming campuses are expected to offer modern facilities, more space, and an improved learning environment — signaling a new era for Ambedkar University Delhi.
