Delhi to Rebuild 415 km Roads Under ₹950 Cr Plan, Targets 500 km by 2026

In a significant infrastructure development initiative, the Delhi government has unveiled a ₹950-crore plan to reconstruct 415 kilometers of deteriorating roads across the city. This massive project aims to provide a much-needed facelift to key stretches such as Outer Ring Road, Mathura Road, Najafgarh Road, and Vikas Marg.

A proposal for the funding has been sent to the Central Government under the Central Road Fund (CRF), with the hope of receiving financial assistance to accelerate the project. So far, 150 km of roads have already been successfully rebuilt, and construction work is currently underway on another 100 km. The government has set an ambitious target of repairing 500 km of roads in the upcoming financial year.

The scope of the project includes not just the reconstruction of roads but also the repair and development of footpaths and drainage systems. To ensure transparency and efficiency, all construction activities will be carried out through an e-tendering process, with a projected completion date set for 2026.

The Public Works Department (PWD) has also initiated a separate campaign to address pothole-related issues across Delhi. On June 23 alone, over 3,400 potholes were filled in a single day as part of this campaign. Citizens have also been encouraged to report road-related complaints via the PWD’s official website or mobile application.

PWD Minister Parvesh Verma emphasized the government’s dedication to improving Delhi’s infrastructure, stating, “Our commitment is to give good roads to the people of Delhi. The previous government constructed poor-quality roads. We will recarpet all the roads to ensure durability and safety.”

This initiative marks a major step forward in enhancing Delhi’s road network and easing urban commutes across the capital.
